Prison Island.

Take a local dhow ride to this beautiful small island just 30 to 40 minutes offshore from Stone Town. The crystal clear waters and fantastic views of Stone Town from the sea make the boat ride very enjoyable. This historical island was used for the confinement of slaves in the late 1800’s, and a quarantine station for lepers victims for Zanzibar and the mainland. The jail itself was built in 1893.
